On November 30, 2024, the “How Seniors Can Peacefully Enjoy Medicaid Benefits” lecture, jointly organized by the Asian American Attorneys Association, the Community Legal Aid Center of NY, and the BBA Prosperity Brooklyn General Association, was successfully held at the Brooklyn Caning Adult Day Care Center. The event attracted many elderly community members, with a full house and a lively atmosphere.
The lecture specially invited Ms. Yan Yanfei, President of the Asian American Attorneys Association and Partner of the iLead Law Group, as the main guest speaker.
Using multiple cases she personally handled and clear and understandable language, Attorney Yan provided a detailed explanation of the Medicaid benefits policy and related legal rights for the attendees, focusing on the following issues: How to avoid time-consuming and laborious guardianship procedures? How to pay for high long-term care costs? How to wisely pass assets to future generations? Through actual cases combined with professional knowledge, she provided elderly participants with legally efficient solutions for utilizing Medicaid benefits, and explained practical tools such as Medicaid Asset Protection Trusts, allowing participants to deeply feel the importance of advance planning and avoiding expensive costs and countless troubles for their families.
The event also received strong support from New York State Assembly Members William Colton and Lester Chang, as well as New York City Council Member Susan Zhuang. They not only assisted in promoting the event but also demonstrated the high attention of community leaders to improving the well-being of the elderly.
At the event, in addition to sharing professional legal knowledge, the organizers also prepared thoughtful tea and abundant gifts for the elderly. The venue was set up with promotional booths related to the theme, and the elderly actively consulted the organizers about personalized questions while listening to the lecture, with frequent interactions and enthusiastic responses.
The successful holding of this lecture was inseparable from the support of many community organizations and enterprises, including the iLead Law Group, Caning Adult Day Care Center, New Era Ruici Media, United Asian American Alliance UA3, K-Sports Soccer Team, NYC The Bridge, Metro Plus Health, Da Guan Real Estate, Wanghao Restaurant, and Weixin Automobile. It was the joint efforts of these institutions that provided practical support and caring services for the community’s elderly population.
Participants unanimously said that through this lecture, they not only gained practical information and solutions but also felt the community’s care and support for the elderly. The event fully demonstrated community cohesion and injected positive energy into improving the quality of life of the elderly.
